Our Freeform Pool Designs are here to help spark ideas of what might be a good fit for you in your backyard. When you’re starting the process of building a pool, there are numerous decisions to make. A great place to get started is with the pool design and design elements. Whether it’s a freeform or geometric design, with modern, Tuscan, or retro design elements, it’s really about the look that fits your home.
At California Pools & Landscape, we’ve been creating custom pools in the Valley of the Sun for more than 36 years. We’ve designed thousands of freeform pools of all shapes and sizes, to meet the desires of every client.
About This Phoenix Backyard Treasure
This Phoenix client came to California Pools & Landscape with dreams of modernizing their backyard to match their remodeled retro home. Set with an amazing view of Camelback Mountain, our designer created this tiered treasure to capture your eye from any point inside the home. Creating multiple destinations for swimming, recreation and relaxation was important for this homeowner in order to maximize the backyard.
The freeform pool was designed to incorporate a modern splash with retro design elements. With multiple usable areas in the backyard, this space has something for everyone. This ultimate backyard features San Miguel Vein Cut travertine that leads from the home and creates usable space on each tiered level. It flows around the pool, up to the spa and around the fire pit. In addition, this client added water features and extensive landscaping in order to create different areas for entertaining and recreation.
A Tiered Freeform Pool Designs With A Spa
The freeform pool and surrounding tiers immediately catch your eye on this backyard project. The lagoon shaped pool is flanked by a zero edge spa and fire pit on either side, both tied together with a 1”x1” Sapphire glass tile. A curved water feature wall with three scuppers helps set the backdrop for the pool, which sparkles with Mediterranean Sea Glass Pebble interior. The Silverstone Marine waterline tile flows nicely into the Brown Quartz Ledgestone stacked stone and compliments the glass tile that carries into the spa, over the baja shelf and into the fire pit. The baja shelf offers a transition into the pool and a nice area for relaxation in the water.
The spa really pops on this project due to the vibrant blue colors exuding from the Sapphire glass tile. The contrast with the tan tones of the travertine create a natural tone in the yard. The glass tile and travertine also blend together on the fire pit, which balances the spa nicely.
Incorporating Design Elements Throughout The Yard
The design of the yard is tied together with the San Miguel Vein Cut travertine that surrounds all of the activity areas and continues to the covered patio with a built-in bbq grill. Extensive landscaping and artificial turf create a beautiful color contrast to the tones of desert living. With almost 2,500 square feet of California Signature Summer artificial turf, there is a lush green environment created plus plenty of room for activities outdoors.
