Our Pool Design Ideas series was created to help spark ideas of what might be a good fit for you in your backyard. When you’re starting the process of building a retro pool, there are numerous decisions to make.

A great place to get started is with the pool design and design elements. Whether it’s a freeform or geometric design, with modern, Tuscan, or retro pool design elements; it’s really about the look that fits your home.

At California Pools & Landscape, we’ve been creating custom pools in the valley of the sun for more than 36 years. We’ve designed hundreds of retro pools of all shapes and sizes, to meet the desires of every client.

About This Paradise Valley Classic Retro Pool

These Paradise Valley customers wanted to update their existing pool while upgrading design elements around it. The pool needed to match the classic look of the home and utilize the addition of new lighting and control systems. The remodeled pool also needed to add new decking, water features and updated equipment.

The focal point from inside the home is the retro pool that sits on a large deck with a striking desert view. With several areas for relaxation, entertainment and recreation throughout the yard, this Paradise Valley classic is a treasured throwback.

Creating A Retro Feel With Design Elements

Creating a clean and classic design to match the feel of the home and preexisting pool was at the top of the list for our design team. Over 1,200 square feet of Cool White Artistic Pavers were added around the pool to create a vintage resort feel. Cool White Artistic Paver Coping sits around the edge of the pool for a consistent flow from the surrounding deck. The pool’s Glacier Sea Glass Pebble interior sparkles and pairs beautifully with the Pietra Di Luce waterline tile. Eight Watermark Deck Jets were added, with four on each side of the pool. The water features add ambiance and balance to the pool environment.

The raised deck and fire pit serves as a natural gathering spot on cool nights in the desert. The interior of the pit is filled with silica sand and black volcanic rock for a natural looking design element. The Hayward Color Logic light adds to the evening entertainment with a light show from inside the pool.
