What Water Features Flow With Your Backyard Design?

Designing your custom oasis means choosing pool water features that match your outdoor living goals. Whether itโ€™s the sound of a bubbling fountain or the elegance of a cascading waterfall, we can bring your vision to life with features that enhance tranquility and style.
Image

Bubblers

Bubblers provide playful water streams, perfect for kids, and create ambiance without extra masonry work. They are a budget-friendly option to add to your Baja shelf or spa, producing a relaxing sound and atmosphere in your backyard.
Image

Deck Jets

Deck Jets produce shimmering water arcs from your deck into the pool, often arranged in groups for added elegance. These water features provide visual and audible tranquility, adding a spectacular element to your pool.
Image

Pool Scuppers

Pool Scuppers deliver a peaceful cascade of water, creating a serene and elegant atmosphere. Scuppers are typically placed in an elevated area of the pool on a column or pool wall. You can customize the size, shape, and materials for your scuppers to perfectly fit the aesthetic of your outdoor oasis.
Image

Rain Sheer

A Rain Sheer adds the most dramatic display and sound of cascading water to your backyard. This luxurious addition adds an alluring visual and audible ambiance that will stand out amongst any other water feature.
Image

Sheer Descents

Sheer Descents create a thinner and wider waterfall with more of a glass-like appearance. These sheets of water still produce a heightened sense of tranquility but arenโ€™t as loud as a scupper. You can customize the size, shape, and materials for your sheer descents to perfectly fit the aesthetic of your outdoor oasis.
Image

Pool Water Bowls

Pool Water Bowls are large decorative pieces that are placed on top of pillars or the pool deck. Transform your environment with the peaceful sound of water flowing from these unique fountains. You can customize the size, shape, and materials for your Water Bowls to perfectly fit the aesthetic of your outdoor oasis.

When Water & Fire Work Together

Fire enhances water in all the right ways. A raised water wall lit with flame adds depth and visual rhythm. A fire-topped water bowl becomes a sculptural centerpiece. These elements invite you to look closer and stay longer. When we design fire and water together, the result is something that feels both elevated and personal, layered with light, sound, and movement.

From the day I choose CA Pools & Landscape through project completion, I have always been impressed. They are a TRUE Design-Build team with open communication and transparency. This ensures the customer is always up to speed with any changes. Steve R (Design), Steve D (Construction) along with Jordan, Gabe (Startup) are amazing with their approach. Sara D is the glue that binds it all together. With all the trades involved and ever changing decisions (mostly from me), she was instrumental in keeping the process moving. From initial design to a finished pool, spa landscape package built in less than 2.5 months is Amazing! I will highly recommend them to anyone in need.

California Pools was awesome to work with. Our Project Manager Ted made us feel like family and was quick to answer any questions we had no matter the time. Dustin also made sure all questions related to the construction were answered. Lots of moving parts and Ted and his team didn't miss a beat. We are beyond happy and excited with our new pool!!

Hire CA pools for your pool/spa project. CA pools came well-recommended by friends here in the Phoenix-metro area. From the first time our salesman, Stephen Reichmuth, walked through our front door until project completion, my wife and I have been very impressed with the speed of construction, quality, and finished product. Sarese Ferguson from the local office regularly emailed us about construction scheduling and patiently/ professionally answered our questions. I was very pleased with our construction supervisor, Sean Beavers, who came to our site almost every day to insure we were happy with progress. Sean is a very positive, patient person and an obvious expert in his field. He gets things done. Our pool was completed one month ahead of schedule! CA Pools exceeded our expectations at every step of construction. We now have a beautiful pool that has beautifully transformed our backyard, and is a lot of fun to use. We could not be happier.

CP designed and built our pool several years ago. We love it! On the rare occasion we have had a seal go bad or pump problems, we have been very happy with the service. They return calls or emails promptly and have someone at our residence within 24-48 hours. They follow up after the service to make sure we are satisfied and that everything is working. I strongly recommend California Pools!

We had gone thru multiple companies to get a quote and it was so frustrating that none of them could get our vision right. We kept explaining that we wanted modern, simple, etc. and they kept giving us these outrageous designs, tripling our budget. California pools, Ryan and Duane specifically listened, created a design that we LOVED and followed through with the construction process. The communication with california pool was top tier. The overall pool & equipment was done so well. It was such a great experience and we are SO happy with our entire backyard now.

Love our new pool and back yard. California pools staff helped us all the way with great design ideas and site layout. The installation was handled on schedule, the crews that came to the house were professional and good to deal with. Harscape crew was awesome and the landscaping crew helped us with ideas for other parts of our yard. The tile work was amazing and everyone worked very hard to stay on schedule. Cannot say enough good things about the process and the results!

We did as most customers do and shopped around before ultimately choosing California Pools. We had a few communication issues with our initial design before it was finalized but overall we had a great experience with California Pools. Our project looks amazing and family and friends all mention the great workmanship of the pool, the Ramada and the travertine deck. The entire Cal Pools team was great but there are a few individuals who we must mention. Thank you to Grace Johnson for the assistance, direction and patients in getting our project financed. Even though our project started the day after Thanksgiving we had no major delays. Scheduling through the entire process was easy since Myra Olson kept us in the loop and constantly informed from the onset of the project. It was great to be able to send her an email with questions or concerns and receive a response immediately almost every time. All the crews were very friendly and professional but we have to acknowledge Matt and the masonry crew. Julio and his team did an excellent job with the masonry portion of the Ramada and an excellent job with the travertine paver decking. Great, great attention to detail. We would be remiss if we didn't mention our project manager Pete Barrera. He made himself so accessible and returned calls and emails without hesitation. He dealt with every question or concern we had and that made this experience that much better. I'm sure he had other projects to deal with but he always made us feel like our project was his priority. The fact that he visited the site almost daily even if just for a few minutes helped minimize the number of items on the punch list. Thank you! We definitely recommend California Pools

I recently had some warranty work completed. The work consisted of replacing some tumbled travertine that had worn away around the edges, replacing the irrigation clock and replacing some travertine pool coping. Previously my spa light needed replacing which was done within 5 days of reporting the claim. The Warranty Manager Michael, Warranty coordinator Cari and Edgar ( person who actually did the work with one helper). As usual Cal Pools delivered in a timely and professional manner. I highly recommend Cal Pools for having a fair price, superb warranty and pleasant people to deal with. We always speak highly of this customer focused organization!

My husband and I are thrilled with our new pool! We initially met with Mike Lillis who drew up a great design for us. He was so easy to work with and spent time with us to come up with the most amazing pool and spa while keeping within the budget we had set. Once everything was rolling it was a steady and fast process. Shawn was always on the ball and oversaw the project. Marcee was amazing with all the email correspondence, because I always liked knowing who was coming next. It really was such a great experience and I highly recommend California Pools.

We started our process contacting 5-6 pool companies. Cal pools was the first company we contacted and our designer was Christopher Robinson. He had a design and prices within a couple hours. Contacted the other companies and no one even had a design within a week let alone prices for me. Chris was absolutely fantastic in every way possible. Any change we made he would have a new design and price almost immediately. There was a lack of communication in the middle of the build where we couldnโ€™t get a hold of the construction manager or scheduler, I contacted Chris and he said that wasnโ€™t right and he made sure someone reached out to me the very next day. They switched our schedule coordinator after that to a lady named Vina Ortega. Vina was a superstar for us. Her communication, knowledge, and all around customer service was top notch. Both Chris and Vina seemed genuinely happy for our family. I would highly recommend Cal pools. We are happy customers. Thank You!

We had shopped around, and working with a tight budget, California Pools & Landscape were the only ones willing to work with what we had. The sales person, Mort, was so helpful, and made this project much easier than we expected. We loved the 3D pictures that he provided as we were designing the pool. That made it so much easier to imagine, and nailed it dead on. We were able to get more than what we thought we would be able to afford, and have to say that the entire family was happy. Choosing the colors I thought was going to be difficult, but Mort made it a family event. Coming out with samples, taking us outside with a glass bowl of water, we were able to get a feel of how the different finishes would look. (Have to say a BIG thanks to Mort for standing outside with us that day, it was 114 degrees) From the start, Steve the project supervisor, came out and explained what the process was going to be. The communication between myself and everyone I dealt with at California Pools couldn't have been better. After each process, Steve came out to make sure that the work was done properly. We really appreciated the attention that they gave to the quality of the work being done, making sure every step was completed correctly. We have been enjoying our California Pool for 1 month now, and the kids are enjoying it every day. We would like to express our thanks to California Pools for working with us, knowing we were on a budget, and making our backyard enjoyable for family.

We had an error message pop up on our screen regarding our salt cell which we clean regularly the first of every month. Called Cal Pools it did take 3 weeks to get an appointment but when Alan came out he was professional and very informative! While we had been cleaning the salt cell every month with the pressure hose but we were not letting it soak in muric acid as he showed me how to do. This was something that was not told to us upon the initial review of the system. He replaced it and made sure everything was working great and he was impressed on how well we have taken care of the pool except for this little mishap and for that there was no charge for the replacement and trip out. Though going over the system with him was very informative, i video taped the first initial review of all the working parts but several things were not spoken of/discussed at that time. I recommend doing a yearly review with customers to make sure everything is going well. Big shot out to Alan!

We are thrilled with our pool and landscaping! We went with California Pools because they did EVERYTHING! They transformed a small, very plain backyard into our own little oasis with a freeform pool complete with a Baja Shelf, lighting, landscaping, and a soothing water feature. Leann Madar kept us well informed on what was happening and when. Matt Sauer got us started with a beautiful plan and Matt White checked on us all along the way, making sure we were satisfied, feeling comfortable, and answering our many questions. Each team in the construction of the pool and yard did their part in this project in a timely fashion and the worksite was kept tidy throughout. Todd Stewart was extremely patient and helpful in teaching us how to care for our pool and Luis is continuing to assist us with the new plants.

We couldn't be happier with the completed pool installed by Cal Pools. Granted, it took some time, with material shortages, labor challenges and weather, but the pros at Cal Pools didn't waiver from their commitment to us to deliver a professionally installed pool. The contractors showed up on time, cleaned up as the worked and treated our property as their own. We were referred to Cal Pools by our good friends. This is our 5th pool build and we were pretty sure we knew what we wanted. David Love, our designer, laid out exactly what we described. This is NO PLAY POOL. 26' wide, 48' long and 3.5'-10' deep with an elevated diving board. 67,000 gallons of water. We highly recommend Cal Pools and if you have an option, choose David Love for design. He also has a great sense of humor.

At the start of our process, we were looking for the least expensive route available. As things went along in our research process, we decided we didn't want to pay more than we had to, but we also wanted to ensure it was done right. We decided there was great value in things like excellent customer service, quality work, good communicaiton, accessibility and flexibility from our sales guy, Dave Grau. He truly listened to what we wanted from a pool and backyard, provided an initial plan, listened to our feedback and gave us several adjusted plans. He suggested Kool Deck over concrete (which we went with) and supported our decision for an in-floor cleaning system, provided suggestions on low maintenance plants (as we knew little about desert landscape options), etc. As the project progressed we really appreciated the updates from Sarah Dougan and the expertise from Sean Bradburn. The cost was somewhat higher than the other couple places we looked into but, as I said before, we wanted it done right and done promptly and CPL was able to get in while the house was being built. It was worth it to us!

My Dream Pool - Polynesian Paradise in AZ! I obtained three quotes before deciding to move forward with California Pools to build my dream pool, and I have absolutely no regrets. One of the many important aspects of trusting a pool company with my yard and money was the requirement of excellent communication. When obtaining quotes, the other pool companies did not follow up with me or did so far too late after on-site visits and lots of my time invested; however, from the very beginning of the initial pool design and layout (Thank you to the late, Scott Greenbank) every aspect of getting the pool built I was informed each and every step of the way, whether is was the scheduling of various stages, or even delays. The CPL app was an excellent resource to keep me up to date on everything and when I needed extra details or information, Alex Barone-Jay was always there with an answer for me in a timely manner as were the friendly staff in the Queen Creek Office. In fact, each person associated with my pool build was an expert in their craft and it was fun and fascinating to watch it come to life over several months. I struck gold with having Adam Redding as my Pool Supervisor/Superintendent. Adam is knowledgeable and personable and ensured to follow up on all the stages of the build and for those reasons I never worried about anything! The end result was exactly what I wanted and dreamed of for the pool. It was a pleasure and I'm so grateful to California Pools for not only this pool, but for the continued support and follow up when I had questions or needed anything!

We requested bids for a new pool build from 4 different companies and chose California Pools due to their professionalism and word of mouth reviews. They were very upfront with the timeframe of the build times and walked us through what to expect. Our project manager Christian Pierre and our construction manager Jordan Thrasher we're fantastic to work with. They were always prompt at responding to any questions we had and made the entire project run extremely smooth. Each phase of the project was completed on or before the estimated dates and the contractors that did work were always courteous and did an amazing job. We couldn't be happier with the pool and they did a top notch job! We couldn't have made a better decision by choosing this company to do our pool.

As an update... We completed my pool last year and we love it. We did have a problem with the performance of the heater and its internal controls, and Bianca at Cal Pools has been very responsive in getting technicians out the next day as needed, and they stayed involved until the issues were resolved. While I wish I wouldn't have had the issue in the first place, it happens... and I was happy with their good customer service after the sale.

Frequently Asked Questions About Water Features

Q: What Should I Consider Before Adding a Pool Water Feature?

When adding a Pool Water Feature, itโ€™s important to consider where youโ€™d like it located in your yard and what youโ€™d like it to sound like. Considering what the focal point is when looking at your backyard from your home will help you land on the ideal location for your water feature or pool water wall. A bubbler or deck jet will produce less sound than a scupper or Rock Grotto. For example, placing a scupper near your lounge area can create a relaxing atmosphere, while bubblers on your Baja shelf add playful aesthetics.

Q: What is the difference between a Scupper & Sheer Descent?

Scuppers are built with various options available for the width and size of the waterfall that falls into the pool, creating a relaxing noise. They are often installed on columns, pillars or water walls. A Sheer Descent creates a wider and thinner waterfall that produces a relaxing sound that isnโ€™t as loud as a Scupper.

Q: What if I want a design feature that has both a fire element and a water feature included?

As a custom and complete backyard builder, we can turn your dreams into a reality. Weโ€™ve built thousands of design features that incorporate both water & fire features, all custom-built to best fit their respective design aesthetic. Whatever sparks your backyard inspiration can be brought to life by our team of talented designers.

Q: Can Pool Water Features Be Added to an Existing Pool?

Yes, water features can be added to an existing pool! From soothing waterfalls to playful deck jets, we can seamlessly integrate features that enhance your poolโ€™s design and create a relaxing, dynamic backyard oasis.

Q: How do I choose a water feature for my pool?

Choosing the right water feature for your pool depends on your style preferences, backyard design, and the ambiance you want to create. Our designers can guide you through options based on your budget, pool size, and preferred style. Consider these factors:

  • Design Aesthetic: Features like waterfalls or rock grottos add a natural, resort-like feel, while bubblers and deck jets provide a sleek, modern touch.
  • Functionality: Think about how youโ€™ll use the featureโ€”deck jets or scuppers add elegance and sound, while bubblers are great for shallow areas where kids play.
  • Space and Budget: Larger features like rock grottos may require more space and investment, while smaller elements like scuppers or sheer descents can fit into more compact designs.
  • Customization: Look for features with options to match your poolโ€™s materials, such as tiles or finishes that align with your overall backyard aesthetic.

Q: Does a pool waterfall need its own pump?

Swimming pool waterfalls typically require their own pump to ensure optimal water flow and functionality. A dedicated pump allows the waterfall to operate independently from your poolโ€™s main circulation system, providing a consistent flow of water for a seamless and tranquil appearance. By having a separate pump, you can also control the water flow rate of the waterfall to match the ambiance you want in your backyard.

Q: Can water features like fountains and waterfalls help cool my pool?

Swimming pool water features like fountains and waterfalls can help cool your pool, especially in hot climates. The continuous water movement they create promotes evaporation, which naturally lowers the water temperature.

Q: How do I maintain a pool waterfall?

Regular cleaning is essential to prevent debris buildup, particularly around the spillway, to maintain the appearance and functionality of the waterfall.

Q: What should I consider before installing a pool waterfall?

  • Pool size: Ensure the waterfallโ€™s size is proportionate to your pool to maintain balanced water flow.
  • Aesthetics: Choose a design that complements your pool and backyard style.
  • Safety: Incorporate safety features to prevent injuries, especially if children use the pool.

Q: How long do pool bubblers last?

Pool bubblers typically last 5โ€“10 years with proper maintenance. Longevity depends on the quality of the bubbler, frequency of use, and regular care. Signs that a bubbler may need replacement include reduced water flow, clogging, or visible damage.

Q: How do pool bubblers work?

Pool bubblers operate by circulating water through a pump and hose, which then flows out of a nozzle to create bubbles. The size of the pump determines the intensity and number of bubbles produced, adding a dynamic effect to the pool.

Q: How do I maintain a pool bubbler?

To maintain a pool bubbler, clean the pump filter regularly and check for any blockages in the nozzle. Removing debris helps maintain consistent water flow and prevents wear on the system.

Q: Can I add lights to a pool bubbler?

Yes, lights can be added to a pool bubbler to enhance its visual appeal, especially at night. Many modern bubblers are compatible with pool automation and lighting systems for synchronized effects.

Q: Are pool bubblers worth it?

Pool bubblers are an affordable and stylish way to add personality and a touch of elegance to your pool. Perfect for Baja shelves or shallow areas, they create playful water streams and a relaxing ambiance, enhancing both the aesthetic and enjoyment of your outdoor space. With their versatile design and budget-friendly appeal, pool bubblers are an excellent addition to any backyard oasis.

Q: Will deck jets cool a pool?

Deck jets can help cool a pool slightly by promoting water circulation and evaporation as the water streams back into the pool. While the cooling effect is minimal, it can make the water feel more refreshing, especially on hot days.

Q: Can you add deck jets to an existing pool?

Yes, deck jets can be added to an existing pool. The process typically involves installing new plumbing lines and integrating the jets into the pool deck. While it may require some modifications to your current setup, consulting a professional ensures proper installation, compatibility with your pool system, and a seamless finish. Adding deck jets is a great way to enhance your poolโ€™s design and create a visually stunning and relaxing environment.

Q: How do pool deck jets work?

Pool deck jets operate by using a pump to send a stream of water arching gracefully from the pool deck into the pool. The water stream creates a shimmering effect that adds visual and auditory tranquility to the pool area. Many deck jets are adjustable, allowing you to control the height and angle of the water flow.

Q: Where do you put deck jets on a pool?

Deck jets are typically installed along the pool deck near the edge, spaced evenly to create a balanced look. Their placement depends on the desired visual effect and the layout of the pool area, ensuring they integrate seamlessly with the overall design. They are often installed in groups for maximum impact.

Q: What are pool scuppers?

Pool scuppers are openings on the side of a pool that allows water to flow out, often creating elegant visual and auditory effects. They assist in maintaining a steady water level, enhance water movement, and contribute to a calming atmosphere around your pool area.

Q: What are scuppers made from?

Scuppers can be crafted from materials such as copper, stainless steel, oil-rubbed bronze, or stone. These options allow for customization to match your pool's style and overall design aesthetic.

Q: How are scuppers installed?

Scuppers are typically installed in groups, often in threes, on raised walls, columns, or standard pool walls. Their placement enhances both the functionality and the visual appeal of your pool design.

Q: How much do scuppers cost?

The cost of a single pool scupper ranges from $100 to $300. However, the price may increase if additional structures like raised walls or columns are needed to house the scuppers.

Q: How do I clean pool scuppers?

Clean scuppers with distilled or purified water and a soft cloth. For water spots, use a product like Windex, and for light buildup, mild soap or vinegar works well. Avoid abrasive cleaners like steel wool, sandpaper, mineral acids, bleach, or chlorine-based products to prevent damage.

Q: How often should I clean my scuppers?

Scuppers should be cleaned regularly, at least once a month, to maintain their appearance and functionality. Regular cleaning prevents buildup and keeps water flowing smoothly.

Q: How long can sheer descents be?

Sheer descents can range in length from 8 inches to 8 feet, making them versatile for various pool designs.

Q: How do you customize sheer descents?

The width of a sheer descent is the most customizable feature, allowing you to choose a size that matches your pool design and desired water effect.

Q: How do you install a sheer descent?

An inline strainer is required during installation to ensure smooth water flow and prevent debris from clogging the system.

Q: How much water do sheer descents need?

Sheer descents typically require 1 gallon of water per minute for every inch of the feature, ensuring a consistent and smooth water flow.

Q: How do you maintain sheer descents?

Maintenance is done by hand to prevent calcium and mineral deposits from building up, preserving the clean, smooth flow of water.

Q: How much noise do sheer descents make?

Sheer descents are quieter than traditional waterfalls, creating a peaceful and relaxing environment in your backyard.

Q: What are the different water effects of sheer descents?

Sheer descents can create various effects, from a silent sheet of water to a rushing waterfall or a glass-like cascade, depending on the water flow.

Q: How do you create a rainfall effect with a sheer descent?

To achieve a rainfall effect, increase the water flow to the sheer descent. The stronger the flow, the farther the "rain" effect will project from the wall.

Q: How do I clean a pool water bowl?

To clean a pool water bowl, use a soft cloth and mild soap to gently remove debris and buildup. Regular cleaning helps maintain its appearance and functionality.

Q: What size bowl should I get?

Choose a bowl size that fits your pool deck and complements the overall design. A well-proportioned bowl enhances the aesthetic while providing a striking water feature.

Q: Can I add lighting to my pool water bowl?

Yes, many pool water bowls can be equipped with LED lighting to create an eye-catching effect, especially at night.

Q: Are there any safety concerns with pool water bowls?

Ensure the bowl is securely installed and supervise children around the pool area to maintain a safe environment.

Q: Can I add a grotto to an existing pool?

In most cases, a grotto can be added to an existing pool, depending on the poolโ€™s structure and the space available. Consulting a professional pool builder ensures proper integration and design.

Q: What are the maintenance considerations for a grotto?

Grottos require regular cleaning to remove debris that can collect in the crevices of the rockwork, helping maintain both functionality and appearance.

Q: Do I need a special pump for a grotto waterfall?

A dedicated pump is typically needed to power the waterfall feature, ensuring a smooth and consistent water flow.

Q: What are some design options for a grotto?

  • Cave-like design: Offers a more enclosed, private space with a deeper interior.
  • Rock wall with waterfall: Features a smaller rock formation with cascading water.
  • Grotto with a bench: Includes a built-in seating area for relaxation within the grotto.
