What Water Features Flow With Your Backyard Design?

Designing your custom oasis means choosing pool water features that match your outdoor living goals. Whether itโ€™s the sound of a bubbling fountain or the elegance of a cascading waterfall, we can bring your vision to life with features that enhance tranquility and style.
Image

Bubblers

Bubblers provide playful water streams, perfect for kids, and create ambiance without extra masonry work. They are a budget-friendly option to add to your Baja shelf or spa, producing a relaxing sound and atmosphere in your backyard.
Image

Deck Jets

Deck Jets produce shimmering water arcs from your deck into the pool, often arranged in groups for added elegance. These water features provide visual and audible tranquility, adding a spectacular element to your pool.
Image

Pool Scuppers

Pool Scuppers deliver a peaceful cascade of water, creating a serene and elegant atmosphere. Scuppers are typically placed in an elevated area of the pool on a column or pool wall. You can customize the size, shape, and materials for your scuppers to perfectly fit the aesthetic of your outdoor oasis.
Image

Rain Sheer

A Rain Sheer adds the most dramatic display and sound of cascading water to your backyard. This luxurious addition adds an alluring visual and audible ambiance that will stand out amongst any other water feature.
Image

Sheer Descents

Sheer Descents create a thinner and wider waterfall with more of a glass-like appearance. These sheets of water still produce a heightened sense of tranquility but arenโ€™t as loud as a scupper. You can customize the size, shape, and materials for your sheer descents to perfectly fit the aesthetic of your outdoor oasis.
Image

Pool Water Bowls

Pool Water Bowls are large decorative pieces that are placed on top of pillars or the pool deck. Transform your environment with the peaceful sound of water flowing from these unique fountains. You can customize the size, shape, and materials for your Water Bowls to perfectly fit the aesthetic of your outdoor oasis.

When Water & Fire Work Together

Fire enhances water in all the right ways. A raised water wall lit with flame adds depth and visual rhythm. A fire-topped water bowl becomes a sculptural centerpiece. These elements invite you to look closer and stay longer. When we design fire and water together, the result is something that feels both elevated and personal, layered with light, sound, and movement.

Nicholas was the project manager for our pool/yard remodel and stayed involved from beginning to end. His design analysis and expertise was always appreciated. But most of all we were thankful that Nicholas took personal responsibility that our project would end well. We could always count on Nicholas to respond quickly, and to find the right person to get our concerns resolved. Thank you.

Our pool was just finished last week and the whole project went so smooth. The most stressful part was the design but our designer, Jacob was very patient with us and helped up design our dream pool. We had absolutely zero complaints once construction started. Darrin made sure that the process was very smooth. If we had any questions or concerns he was on it and we were always able to get in touch with him. Communication was great and you can tell he really cares about the end project. California pools has a great team set up to make sure your pool is everything you dreamed of.

We are very pleased with the end result of out backyard. CP did our swimming pool, fire-pit and gas BBQ along with all the landscaping. I wish the builder of our home would have used them for the front yard as who else do you know that gives a 1 year plant replacement warranty? This was our fourth pool and you learn something each time you build one. So glad that I did not go with someone else. Building anything there will always be things that come up and I understand that. It was such a relief that CP took care of any concerns we had. My main point of contact was Sara who was outstanding and was able to take care of any concerns we had. She was extremely pleasant and was a joy to work with. Our construction manager Darrin was great also and went out of his way to make sure we were satisfied. CP was not the cheapest quote we received but I am so glad that we went with them as sometimes you need to pay a little more to sleep good at night.

Our pool project was just completed. Cal Pools helped us with design, materials and all labor. Chuck, the project manager, was knowledgeable and professional; terrific to work with. Donna, our job coordinator, answered all our questions promptly, and made the whole process enjoyable. Work with them again in a heartbeat! BEAUTIFUL pool.

Our supervisor was Nathan Reyes and he is my reason for this 5 star review. Nathan was truly the best!! Our designer left half way through the project but Nathan never missed a beat and got everything done and more!! Thank you Nathan and California Pools did an amazing job.

California Pools completed our pool project last year in less than 2 1/2 months. We were very pleased. Only one day off schedule. This year we have had an issue with our heater. Cari Grossman has been our customer service rep and has always gotten back to us with status of issues. When no service tech's were available, our warranty manager came to get things going.Today Trevor and Manny were here to assess our problem further. They quickly diagnosed the issue and handled it. Thanks so much guys.We have had a great experience with California Pools. We highly recommend them.

Our pool project is finished just in the last couple weeks. We are very happy and I waited to write this review a couple weeks after the pool was finished to see how any minor issues would be resolved. As expected, and through the whole process, Ron Arden, Marcee Walker, and Richard Bustos all were and continue to be exceptional! We had a larger than usual pool, no play pool here and with all their efforts the pool was finished on time and is beautiful. I knew I was probably paying a little more than some pool companies, but this is why I paid the extra money. To be treated like a VIP customer. I definitely recommend California Pool and spa for your next pool project. They have surprised me many times over in a positive way on taking care of the usual issues projects this big create. Thank-you

We love our pool. Steve ,our construction manager, is a stickler for detail. Making sure everything is done right. Answering our concerns. And making sure everything was done to our liking. It was a pleasure working with both Steve and Jessica. I think the scheduling could be a little tighter but we would recommend California Pools to anyone looking to build their dream pool.

I am one that rarely gives reviews because of their subjective nature but in this case as a business owner who understands the value of those reviews, I just had to give one and 5 stars it is. From the competent staff to communication up front and throughout the process, was remarkable given the large project at hand. The results are even better than the design and I could not be any more elated. I also will say that as we compared pricing before committing, my advice would be that you can't put value or quality in a "low dollar amount" as the final product and experience holds that for us. Absolutely must recommend California Pools!

Design of our pool and spa by Cal Pools was a work of art! The construction of the pool and spa took 7 months and had its ups and downs with construction quality . These issues were fixed by Cal Pool during the construction period. With about 1.5 months left to complete the pool, the Cal Pool construction manager quit or was let go. Cal Pool provided us with a fantastic new construction manager (Stephen Dreher) and he got our pool and spa construction back on track. Stephen provided us with clear explanations of the final steps to complete the project. He also explained in detail how the equipment worked and gave us tips on pool maintenance. Stephen Dreher rocks!

We are totally satisfied with our new pool, spa and landscaping. California Pools was outstanding to work with and everyone is so friendly. Our project was done on time and came out exactly as it was drawn up. A special shoutout to Brian, Adam and Vina for making our entire project so seamless as they all went out of their way to make this to make sure we were satisified every step of the way. I would highly recommend and would not hesitate to use them for future projects.

Update: Gor the word that they are fixing asap and we do not have to pay extra!!!!! Thank you CPL. Steve our project Manager is the man!!!!! Thank you. Update: Got a call from our Project Manager. Up a star for that. The team is trying, but I still believe I should not have to pay extra to fix the issue we are having with irrigation system being broken during excavation.

California Pools built and entirely custom pool, deck and gazebo for us for our vacation property in Arizona. Building a pool remotely is challenging but they provided good updates and made the process enjoyable. We had some challenges with the pool after year one but when we contacted the owner they engaged an amazing support team that provided a detailed and through repair inspection and part replacement process to solve the problems. Gabe and Jessie were both outstanding and went above and beyond to solve the problems immediately with detailed communications. They stood behind their products and did not charge us for any repairs regardless of warranty policies. We would definitely recommend them to anyone and would ONLY use them to build another pool!! Thank you Gabe and Jessie for your outstanding customer service!!

We have had a California Pool for nearly twenty years and have always enjoyed the use over this time without concern. When we were planing and did our homework we selected California Pools because of the reputation, warranty and top reviews. We were very fortunate because over the years the quality and low maintenance proved itself. In the very few times we have needed their attention, it was responded to with the customer in mind and immediate. We are pleased to recommend California Pools when you want a quality pool built.

After meeting with multiple pool companies the obvious choice was California Pools in Chandler, AZ. Delays due to Covid they were still open with communication and professional throughout the entire process. Ted made our visions come to life and the entire team and crew put it all together! Would recommend them to anyone, and if I could chose them all over again I would.

From the very beginning Our experience with California Pools has been top notch. We were blown away with the exceptional design skills Cody was able to bring to life on a zoom meeting on our very first meeting. Cody was able to take every little detail and made it a reality before our eyes. I had so many compliments on how unique our pool was designed when it was still dirt and rebar. Jordan came out for the first time and answered all our questions with a realistic timeline. He always answered or returned our calls with a solution. Made sure every step of the way was paved and did what he said he would do without fail. If he didn't know the answer he found one, we were never left wondering. He kept tabs on all the projects and crews on site to keep us moving forward very quickly with a smile on his face! He was very personable. Then there was Sara! She handled all the scheduling of the project. Some days we would have 3 or more crews here and she kept them coming rapid fire it was outstanding the way it came together in such a short amount of time. Always going the extra mile to get what we needed done and at lightning speed!! Her calm friendly "Sunshine" attitude was a warm genuine experience. She always responded in the app right away with an answer or a solution. So far we couldn't be happier with our experience. I have waited my whole adult life and California Pools made my dream a reality in my back yard!!! Thank you

One call to California Pools and they took care of the rest. Vianna Lopez was a pleasure to deal with throughout the entire process. She coordinated the individuals to review the work to be done, lined up the craftsman, scheduled the work, kept me informed and followed up upon completion. Superb customer service!

In a time of construction delays and problems facing all of Arizona's construction industry, CA Pools handled our project with the upmost integrity, honesty and professionalism. Our Pool and backyard is everything we could have ever hoped for. Joel Parron did a wonderful job designing our pool using references of a pool my late father built when we were growing up. Eric Collins our construction manager was up front and honest about every step of the way helping navigate a very difficult time with the construction industry during the pandemic. Nadine Chapman helped keep our schedule in order so I was never surprised when a construction team would show up. The company's app helped make communication a breeze. My family and I would recommend them completely!

With so many choices we think we found the best. Our sales rep Travis gave us many options and sold us on value over lowest price. Value that means a lifetime warranty on decking. The product he showed was truly amazing and a must have in the hot AZ summer days. You can feel a huge difference between cool deck and concrete. The scheduler was amazing! Marcee was responsive, timely and very detailed in her communication. Without her we would be left wondering what's next! The construction manager Shawn gave us the time and individual attention we needed. Made sure that every detail met our needs. There are so many other little things that make CalPools great but I can sum it up this way. We started our search on the BBB website and there are a lot of choices of pool and landscape companies. Save your self time and heartache; go with CalIfornia Pools and landscape and you won't be disappointed. On time completion No surprise charges or fees No subcontracting Great communication Amazing final product. A huge financial investment well worth every penny! PS that's the best dog ever Marshall! I addition to my previous comments (very happy in all respects), I want to mention our designer, Cliff Fox (623) 696-7015, Myra (myra@calpool.com) and Marissa Puzz (MPuzz@calpool.com). Cliff's design work was outstanding, and he is a very good listener. He got us to our final design very efficiently and within our budget. Myra got our excavation underway and on schedule. Marissa is in charge of job completion post excavation. She kept us in the loop at every stage. The entire team works well together. Cali Pools also has a very efficient updating system that let us know in real time what had ben accomplished practically ever day.

I am a home builder and few times it happens to me to meet companies so good! They were the less expensive of 4 estimates, their schedule was perfect, no delays, I made some change of orders and they were very accommodating, (and also I had some refunds because they used less material and labor!), very communicative, and the pool is beautiful and working good.Thank you Brian Fox and Rebecca Schulte, see you at the next project!

We had California Pools and landscape design and landscape our front and backyard. From the design phase to the selection of materials, to the installation, everything went smoothly. We were impressed with Jacob Gelo, designer, John our Construction Manager, and Sara Dougan who kept us informed about each step.I couldn't be happier with the process from beginning to end, but more importantly, at how the project turned out.I would highly recommend having California Pools and Landscape design and install your landscaping.

Frequently Asked Questions About Water Features

Q: What Should I Consider Before Adding a Pool Water Feature?

When adding a Pool Water Feature, itโ€™s important to consider where youโ€™d like it located in your yard and what youโ€™d like it to sound like. Considering what the focal point is when looking at your backyard from your home will help you land on the ideal location for your water feature or pool water wall. A bubbler or deck jet will produce less sound than a scupper or Rock Grotto. For example, placing a scupper near your lounge area can create a relaxing atmosphere, while bubblers on your Baja shelf add playful aesthetics.

Q: What is the difference between a Scupper & Sheer Descent?

Scuppers are built with various options available for the width and size of the waterfall that falls into the pool, creating a relaxing noise. They are often installed on columns, pillars or water walls. A Sheer Descent creates a wider and thinner waterfall that produces a relaxing sound that isnโ€™t as loud as a Scupper.

Q: What if I want a design feature that has both a fire element and a water feature included?

As a custom and complete backyard builder, we can turn your dreams into a reality. Weโ€™ve built thousands of design features that incorporate both water & fire features, all custom-built to best fit their respective design aesthetic. Whatever sparks your backyard inspiration can be brought to life by our team of talented designers.

Q: Can Pool Water Features Be Added to an Existing Pool?

Yes, water features can be added to an existing pool! From soothing waterfalls to playful deck jets, we can seamlessly integrate features that enhance your poolโ€™s design and create a relaxing, dynamic backyard oasis.

Q: How do I choose a water feature for my pool?

Choosing the right water feature for your pool depends on your style preferences, backyard design, and the ambiance you want to create. Our designers can guide you through options based on your budget, pool size, and preferred style. Consider these factors:

  • Design Aesthetic: Features like waterfalls or rock grottos add a natural, resort-like feel, while bubblers and deck jets provide a sleek, modern touch.
  • Functionality: Think about how youโ€™ll use the featureโ€”deck jets or scuppers add elegance and sound, while bubblers are great for shallow areas where kids play.
  • Space and Budget: Larger features like rock grottos may require more space and investment, while smaller elements like scuppers or sheer descents can fit into more compact designs.
  • Customization: Look for features with options to match your poolโ€™s materials, such as tiles or finishes that align with your overall backyard aesthetic.

Q: Does a pool waterfall need its own pump?

Swimming pool waterfalls typically require their own pump to ensure optimal water flow and functionality. A dedicated pump allows the waterfall to operate independently from your poolโ€™s main circulation system, providing a consistent flow of water for a seamless and tranquil appearance. By having a separate pump, you can also control the water flow rate of the waterfall to match the ambiance you want in your backyard.

Q: Can water features like fountains and waterfalls help cool my pool?

Swimming pool water features like fountains and waterfalls can help cool your pool, especially in hot climates. The continuous water movement they create promotes evaporation, which naturally lowers the water temperature.

Q: How do I maintain a pool waterfall?

Regular cleaning is essential to prevent debris buildup, particularly around the spillway, to maintain the appearance and functionality of the waterfall.

Q: What should I consider before installing a pool waterfall?

  • Pool size: Ensure the waterfallโ€™s size is proportionate to your pool to maintain balanced water flow.
  • Aesthetics: Choose a design that complements your pool and backyard style.
  • Safety: Incorporate safety features to prevent injuries, especially if children use the pool.

Q: How long do pool bubblers last?

Pool bubblers typically last 5โ€“10 years with proper maintenance. Longevity depends on the quality of the bubbler, frequency of use, and regular care. Signs that a bubbler may need replacement include reduced water flow, clogging, or visible damage.

Q: How do pool bubblers work?

Pool bubblers operate by circulating water through a pump and hose, which then flows out of a nozzle to create bubbles. The size of the pump determines the intensity and number of bubbles produced, adding a dynamic effect to the pool.

Q: How do I maintain a pool bubbler?

To maintain a pool bubbler, clean the pump filter regularly and check for any blockages in the nozzle. Removing debris helps maintain consistent water flow and prevents wear on the system.

Q: Can I add lights to a pool bubbler?

Yes, lights can be added to a pool bubbler to enhance its visual appeal, especially at night. Many modern bubblers are compatible with pool automation and lighting systems for synchronized effects.

Q: Are pool bubblers worth it?

Pool bubblers are an affordable and stylish way to add personality and a touch of elegance to your pool. Perfect for Baja shelves or shallow areas, they create playful water streams and a relaxing ambiance, enhancing both the aesthetic and enjoyment of your outdoor space. With their versatile design and budget-friendly appeal, pool bubblers are an excellent addition to any backyard oasis.

Q: Will deck jets cool a pool?

Deck jets can help cool a pool slightly by promoting water circulation and evaporation as the water streams back into the pool. While the cooling effect is minimal, it can make the water feel more refreshing, especially on hot days.

Q: Can you add deck jets to an existing pool?

Yes, deck jets can be added to an existing pool. The process typically involves installing new plumbing lines and integrating the jets into the pool deck. While it may require some modifications to your current setup, consulting a professional ensures proper installation, compatibility with your pool system, and a seamless finish. Adding deck jets is a great way to enhance your poolโ€™s design and create a visually stunning and relaxing environment.

Q: How do pool deck jets work?

Pool deck jets operate by using a pump to send a stream of water arching gracefully from the pool deck into the pool. The water stream creates a shimmering effect that adds visual and auditory tranquility to the pool area. Many deck jets are adjustable, allowing you to control the height and angle of the water flow.

Q: Where do you put deck jets on a pool?

Deck jets are typically installed along the pool deck near the edge, spaced evenly to create a balanced look. Their placement depends on the desired visual effect and the layout of the pool area, ensuring they integrate seamlessly with the overall design. They are often installed in groups for maximum impact.

Q: What are pool scuppers?

Pool scuppers are openings on the side of a pool that allows water to flow out, often creating elegant visual and auditory effects. They assist in maintaining a steady water level, enhance water movement, and contribute to a calming atmosphere around your pool area.

Q: What are scuppers made from?

Scuppers can be crafted from materials such as copper, stainless steel, oil-rubbed bronze, or stone. These options allow for customization to match your pool's style and overall design aesthetic.

Q: How are scuppers installed?

Scuppers are typically installed in groups, often in threes, on raised walls, columns, or standard pool walls. Their placement enhances both the functionality and the visual appeal of your pool design.

Q: How much do scuppers cost?

The cost of a single pool scupper ranges from $100 to $300. However, the price may increase if additional structures like raised walls or columns are needed to house the scuppers.

Q: How do I clean pool scuppers?

Clean scuppers with distilled or purified water and a soft cloth. For water spots, use a product like Windex, and for light buildup, mild soap or vinegar works well. Avoid abrasive cleaners like steel wool, sandpaper, mineral acids, bleach, or chlorine-based products to prevent damage.

Q: How often should I clean my scuppers?

Scuppers should be cleaned regularly, at least once a month, to maintain their appearance and functionality. Regular cleaning prevents buildup and keeps water flowing smoothly.

Q: How long can sheer descents be?

Sheer descents can range in length from 8 inches to 8 feet, making them versatile for various pool designs.

Q: How do you customize sheer descents?

The width of a sheer descent is the most customizable feature, allowing you to choose a size that matches your pool design and desired water effect.

Q: How do you install a sheer descent?

An inline strainer is required during installation to ensure smooth water flow and prevent debris from clogging the system.

Q: How much water do sheer descents need?

Sheer descents typically require 1 gallon of water per minute for every inch of the feature, ensuring a consistent and smooth water flow.

Q: How do you maintain sheer descents?

Maintenance is done by hand to prevent calcium and mineral deposits from building up, preserving the clean, smooth flow of water.

Q: How much noise do sheer descents make?

Sheer descents are quieter than traditional waterfalls, creating a peaceful and relaxing environment in your backyard.

Q: What are the different water effects of sheer descents?

Sheer descents can create various effects, from a silent sheet of water to a rushing waterfall or a glass-like cascade, depending on the water flow.

Q: How do you create a rainfall effect with a sheer descent?

To achieve a rainfall effect, increase the water flow to the sheer descent. The stronger the flow, the farther the "rain" effect will project from the wall.

Q: How do I clean a pool water bowl?

To clean a pool water bowl, use a soft cloth and mild soap to gently remove debris and buildup. Regular cleaning helps maintain its appearance and functionality.

Q: What size bowl should I get?

Choose a bowl size that fits your pool deck and complements the overall design. A well-proportioned bowl enhances the aesthetic while providing a striking water feature.

Q: Can I add lighting to my pool water bowl?

Yes, many pool water bowls can be equipped with LED lighting to create an eye-catching effect, especially at night.

Q: Are there any safety concerns with pool water bowls?

Ensure the bowl is securely installed and supervise children around the pool area to maintain a safe environment.

Q: Can I add a grotto to an existing pool?

In most cases, a grotto can be added to an existing pool, depending on the poolโ€™s structure and the space available. Consulting a professional pool builder ensures proper integration and design.

Q: What are the maintenance considerations for a grotto?

Grottos require regular cleaning to remove debris that can collect in the crevices of the rockwork, helping maintain both functionality and appearance.

Q: Do I need a special pump for a grotto waterfall?

A dedicated pump is typically needed to power the waterfall feature, ensuring a smooth and consistent water flow.

Q: What are some design options for a grotto?

  • Cave-like design: Offers a more enclosed, private space with a deeper interior.
  • Rock wall with waterfall: Features a smaller rock formation with cascading water.
  • Grotto with a bench: Includes a built-in seating area for relaxation within the grotto.
