What Water Features Flow With Your Backyard Design?

Designing your custom oasis means choosing pool water features that match your outdoor living goals. Whether it’s the sound of a bubbling fountain or the elegance of a cascading waterfall, we can bring your vision to life with features that enhance tranquility and style.
Image

Bubblers

Bubblers provide playful water streams, perfect for kids, and create ambiance without extra masonry work. They are a budget-friendly option to add to your Baja shelf or spa, producing a relaxing sound and atmosphere in your backyard.
Image

Deck Jets

Deck Jets produce shimmering water arcs from your deck into the pool, often arranged in groups for added elegance. These water features provide visual and audible tranquility, adding a spectacular element to your pool.
Image

Pool Scuppers

Pool Scuppers deliver a peaceful cascade of water, creating a serene and elegant atmosphere. Scuppers are typically placed in an elevated area of the pool on a column or pool wall. You can customize the size, shape, and materials for your scuppers to perfectly fit the aesthetic of your outdoor oasis.
Image

Rain Sheer

A Rain Sheer adds the most dramatic display and sound of cascading water to your backyard. This luxurious addition adds an alluring visual and audible ambiance that will stand out amongst any other water feature.
Image

Sheer Descents

Sheer Descents create a thinner and wider waterfall with more of a glass-like appearance. These sheets of water still produce a heightened sense of tranquility but aren’t as loud as a scupper. You can customize the size, shape, and materials for your sheer descents to perfectly fit the aesthetic of your outdoor oasis.
Image

Pool Water Bowls

Pool Water Bowls are large decorative pieces that are placed on top of pillars or the pool deck. Transform your environment with the peaceful sound of water flowing from these unique fountains. You can customize the size, shape, and materials for your Water Bowls to perfectly fit the aesthetic of your outdoor oasis.

When Water & Fire Work Together

Fire enhances water in all the right ways. A raised water wall lit with flame adds depth and visual rhythm. A fire-topped water bowl becomes a sculptural centerpiece. These elements invite you to look closer and stay longer. When we design fire and water together, the result is something that feels both elevated and personal, layered with light, sound, and movement.

California Pools and Landscape came to our rescue! Another contractor left us with a half-finished project, an empty pool, and a giant mess. After seeing our disaster broadcast on 3 By-Your-Side, the owner of Cal Pools actually reached out to us and offered to help. We have done many, many construction/remodel projects over the years. Never have we worked with such a professional, organized, honest company. They truly set a new standard. Stephen, our project manager, seamlessly coordinated each aspect of our complicated redo. They have an App for your phone that provides continued updates, alerting you to when and who will be in your yard, what the steps are to complete the project etc. Each subcontractor is part of Cal Pools, so they know their aspect of the job and performs at the same high standard. Our yard is beautiful!

I have a pool designed and built by California Pools that is a little over 1 year old. After the pool was completed I have had two self-induced problems that had me coming back to Cal Pools to have fixed and my experience on both occasions has been exceptional. The service representative, Leslie Gallegos, was extremely friendly and responsive, and had someone out the very next day on both occasions that looked into the problem(s) and fixed them on the spot. On the most recent service call this past week, Leslie had a service technician, Trevor Gossmann, come out who was exceptional. Trevor addressed a problem with the DE filter I had serviced by another pool service company and he knew immediately what was wrong and disassembled the DE filter assembly to confirm his initial assessment. Our other pool service company did not know what they were doing and Trevor jumped in and fixed the problem as well as made sure the pool was operating the way it should. Wow, what a difference. I cannot say how much I appreciate the professionalism and expertise you get when dealing with Cal Pools, especially getting treated so well a year after the pool construction was complete. Leslie and Trevor are terrific people to deal with and I am so glad that I had Cal Pools build my pool. I would recommend them to anyone considering having a pool built and who may be concerned with service after the pool has been completed. And, oh by the way, our pool design and functionality is the best thanks to the superior workmanship of Cal Pools. I definitely made the right choice when I selected Cal Pools do our pool.

I had a great experience with California Pools. My designer Joshua Turnbull was amazing. He adjusted the plans as many times as I asked and he ended up giving me a fantastic pool and backyard design. I also received above and beyond service from Stephen Dreher, the construction manager. He was always available for phone calls and made regular site visits. He was easy to talk to and he explained everything I needed to know in detail. He was simply amazing. Jessica Zaragoza in scheduling was also excellent. She always answered her phone, or made timely return calls. She was always available to give me a heads up on when the trades would be at my house to do work. We had no delays and the entire pool and yard was one in just a little over 2 months. Would definitely recommend and use California pools again.

We were thoroughly impressed with California Pools. Vina and Matt were excellent and communicative through the process. They always got back to us in a timely fashion. Brian was the only designer of 4 pool companies that we talked with that found a solution for our pool equipment, notice it is not in the backyard!!! it is on the side of the house and keeps the pool/spa area quiet. And the Porcelain looks amazing. Was it perfect, no, but it was very good, and when there was an issue they gave me choices, suggesting the best for us long term. Thank you all, I would highly recommend CalPools Queen Creek!! Stan.

Absolutely perfect experience with California Pools. They completed our job in record time with the hole being dug 10/11/23 and the pool being filled in late January 24'. I think it would have been fasted but we actually held them up a bit. Donnie was our project manager and was OUTSTANDING. He was at the job site daily and fixed things before I even noticed they needed fixing. Ashton handled our hardscapes and had the same "whatever it takes" attitude. Really impressed and highly recommend them.

We absolutely love our new pool from California Pools & Landscape! Kyle Morse did an outstanding job designing our pool! Kyle is very knowledgeable and gave us many suggestions as he was designing our pool. Kyle was also great at answering questions during the pool installation! Stephen Dreher oversaw the entire pool installation from start to finish. He came to our house numerous times to check on the process of the installation. Stephen would also take the time to explain what was going on as our pool was being installed. I would definitely recommend California Pools & Landscape! I would also recommend Kyle Morse and Stephen Dreher!

When we moved to Arizona, our first priority was to build a pool. We received quotes and design plans from many pool companies. I honestly feel like other companies tried to take advantage of our lack of "pool knowledge" and tried to sell us all of the bells & whistles. After talking to friends, we were referred to California Pools. We were pleasantly surprised at how easy the sales process was. Our sales guy, Travis, paid attention to what we wanted, didn't try to oversell us and designed a pool with our input. Although the building process took a little longer than we anticipated, we couldn't be happier with the end result! We have a beautiful pool that exceeded our expectations!

They did a fantastic job on our pool. They were fast and efficient and kept us up to date on what was happening at each stage of the build. They wore masks when we had to meet and if there was a delay or small problem it was readily fixed within a week. We love our pool!

After receiving several quotes from regional pool companies, we chose CalPool because their presentation was far and above the most thorough, and their pricing was below that of their competition for like pool designs and features. Designing, scheduling and building any construction project while dealing with the Covid pandemic can be challenging at all levels, not to mention the Arizona monsoon rains that decimated a number of their construction sites. Throughout the entire project CalPool constantly strived to meet the schedule deadline, and if they couldn't, reached out to us immediately with updates that worked for the both of us. I would highly recommend CalPool to anyone interested in a future pool project!!! Thank you for such a beautiful swimming pool!!!!

We first had our pool drafted in 2019, got cold feet and backed away from the idea. In 2020 at the beginning of the pandemic we contacted Chris to get ball rolling again. They still had our draft, which made it easy to restart the process. Due to the pandemic, construction and completion of out project was somewhat delayed, but not nearly as bad as that I'm currently hearing build times are now. Fast forward to today 5/28/2021. We are 95% happy with CalPools and our pool build out. Chris was great to work with. We did have a small issue with deck cracks, and grout separation at the water line, but CalPools worked quick to rectify the situation. Cari was incredible at getting our needs taken care of in a timely manner. The only issue I have with the over project, which in hind sight and not knowing much about pools. I wish we would have made the very last step a bit smaller and reduced the depth of our Baja/sun step. It stands at about 12", two less inches would have been perfect. So far so good. Happy with our choice, happy with our pool. Our landscape was completed by another company. In the end it all came out exactly as we planned it.

Nicholas was the project manager for our pool/yard remodel and stayed involved from beginning to end. His design analysis and expertise was always appreciated. But most of all we were thankful that Nicholas took personal responsibility that our project would end well. We could always count on Nicholas to respond quickly, and to find the right person to get our concerns resolved. Thank you.

Cal Pools really stands behind their warranty statement and provides an exceptional customer experience. I recently had a warranty issue and Jesse R (Service Mgr.) and his team: Bianca, Gabe, Trevor & Ray immediately came out and addressed the issue. Throughout the entire process the service team was professional, courteous and maintained great follow-up; a real pleasure to work with. CPL truly takes care of their customers. Brian Fox and the whole team at CPL are fantastic. Brian was very creative in designing our entire backyard environment. We had so much fun each time we met with him in the design phase and other associates that helped us along the way. When we had issues/changes during the process; they were addressed very quickly. We are so happy with our pool and landscape! We had just moved to AZ and it was our first time having a pool. We bought a new construction and Cali Pools was able to start construction before we even closed on the house. We are so happy with Dave's vision and Cari who helped with the warranty requests. We highly recommend them. Even our pool guy complimented how nice and high quality work California Pools did.

I had a great experience with my pool build. But even better is the continued excellent support I receive from Chelle McCarthy of the warranty department. I had tree die just outside of its warranty period (due to the extreme heat) and I contacted her and explained the situation and she agreed to have it replanted after summer. She is very friendly and responsive, and a great representation of the California Pools staff!

Completely satisfied from start to finish. While Cal may not be the least expensive pool you can build in this market, it is an excellent product. Having had multiple pools over the years, I am very comfortable recommending this company. The professionalism and friendliness of this team are extraordinary from start to finish!

Jon Utz was awesome as the construction manager. Responded immediately to the questions and concerns we had during the process. We had pool and entire backyard landscape designed and constructed by CPL and we love it! Yes, pool construction is expensive and issues with supply chains, worker delays, etc but CPL does not compromise on quality which cannot be said for other pool companies in the valley. A few (very) minor issues with equipment, etc. were promptly remedied with ongoing warranty. Great customer service and quality. Highly recommend, would use them again.

California Pools & Landscape designed and built my pool, spa and landscaped the backyard nearly 10 years ago. They did a terrific job and since then, have provided very good service and equipment maintenance. For me, there are two people that have been great and make all the difference that I would say have been outstanding; Alison Sherwood and Jesse who heads up their pool/spa field work. The best and I highly recommend them.

When we decided to have a pool built we checked out several pool companies and found that only California Pools understood our vision. Other pools companies gave us boring and outdated designs and some even pushed back when we asked for new designs. Our designer at Cal pools Matt Sauer worked with us until we were 100% satisfied with our design (and 8 change orders during the construction because we were super indecisive) and we felt no pressure. During the construction our construction manager Jeremiah was extreemly helpful and ensured our pool was built properly and with excellent quality. He always worked with our scheduling coordinator Sara and let us know the phases of construction that we were in and helped us make any last min changes to ensure we were happy. I would definitely recommend California Pools to design and build your pool!

Just wanted to share some appreciation for one of your fantastic team members, Gabe Wenzel. I purchased a pool from you about 2 years ago, and Gabe has been a constant source of support, always ready to assist and address any concerns I've had. This level of customer care truly deserves recognition. As a Realtor, I'm always thrilled to recommend businesses that go above and beyond, and employees like Gabe make that decision easy.

Frequently Asked Questions About Water Features

Q: What Should I Consider Before Adding a Pool Water Feature?

When adding a Pool Water Feature, it’s important to consider where you’d like it located in your yard and what you’d like it to sound like. Considering what the focal point is when looking at your backyard from your home will help you land on the ideal location for your water feature or pool water wall. A bubbler or deck jet will produce less sound than a scupper or Rock Grotto. For example, placing a scupper near your lounge area can create a relaxing atmosphere, while bubblers on your Baja shelf add playful aesthetics.

Q: What is the difference between a Scupper & Sheer Descent?

Scuppers are built with various options available for the width and size of the waterfall that falls into the pool, creating a relaxing noise. They are often installed on columns, pillars or water walls. A Sheer Descent creates a wider and thinner waterfall that produces a relaxing sound that isn’t as loud as a Scupper.

Q: What if I want a design feature that has both a fire element and a water feature included?

As a custom and complete backyard builder, we can turn your dreams into a reality. We’ve built thousands of design features that incorporate both water & fire features, all custom-built to best fit their respective design aesthetic. Whatever sparks your backyard inspiration can be brought to life by our team of talented designers.

Q: Can Pool Water Features Be Added to an Existing Pool?

Yes, water features can be added to an existing pool! From soothing waterfalls to playful deck jets, we can seamlessly integrate features that enhance your pool’s design and create a relaxing, dynamic backyard oasis.

Q: How do I choose a water feature for my pool?

Choosing the right water feature for your pool depends on your style preferences, backyard design, and the ambiance you want to create. Our designers can guide you through options based on your budget, pool size, and preferred style. Consider these factors:

  • Design Aesthetic: Features like waterfalls or rock grottos add a natural, resort-like feel, while bubblers and deck jets provide a sleek, modern touch.
  • Functionality: Think about how you’ll use the feature. Deck jets or scuppers add elegance and sound, while bubblers are great for shallow areas where kids play.
  • Space and Budget: Larger features like rock grottos may require more space and investment, while smaller elements like scuppers or sheer descents can fit into more compact designs.
  • Customization: Look for features with options to match your pool’s materials, such as tiles or finishes that align with your overall backyard aesthetic.

Q: Does a pool waterfall need its own pump?

Swimming pool waterfalls typically require their own pump to ensure optimal water flow and functionality. A dedicated pump allows the waterfall to operate independently from your pool’s main circulation system, providing a consistent flow of water for a seamless and tranquil appearance. By having a separate pump, you can also control the water flow rate of the waterfall to match the ambiance you want in your backyard.

Q: Can water features like fountains and waterfalls help cool my pool?

Swimming pool water features like fountains and waterfalls can help cool your pool, especially in hot climates. The continuous water movement they create promotes evaporation, which naturally lowers the water temperature.

Q: How do I maintain a pool waterfall?

Regular cleaning is essential to prevent debris buildup, particularly around the spillway, to maintain the appearance and functionality of the waterfall.

Q: What should I consider before installing a pool waterfall?

  • Pool size: Ensure the waterfall’s size is proportionate to your pool to maintain balanced water flow.
  • Aesthetics: Choose a design that complements your pool and backyard style.
  • Safety: Incorporate safety features to prevent injuries, especially if children use the pool.

Q: How long do pool bubblers last?

Pool bubblers typically last 5–10 years with proper maintenance. Longevity depends on the quality of the bubbler, frequency of use, and regular care. Signs that a bubbler may need replacement include reduced water flow, clogging, or visible damage.

Q: How do pool bubblers work?

Pool bubblers operate by circulating water through a pump and hose, which then flows out of a nozzle to create bubbles. The size of the pump determines the intensity and number of bubbles produced, adding a dynamic effect to the pool.

Q: How do I maintain a pool bubbler?

To maintain a pool bubbler, clean the pump filter regularly and check for any blockages in the nozzle. Removing debris helps maintain consistent water flow and prevents wear on the system.

Q: Can I add lights to a pool bubbler?

Yes, lights can be added to a pool bubbler to enhance its visual appeal, especially at night. Many modern bubblers are compatible with pool automation and lighting systems for synchronized effects.

Q: Are pool bubblers worth it?

Pool bubblers are an affordable and stylish way to add personality and a touch of elegance to your pool. Perfect for Baja shelves or shallow areas, they create playful water streams and a relaxing ambiance, enhancing both the aesthetic and enjoyment of your outdoor space. With their versatile design and budget-friendly appeal, pool bubblers are an excellent addition to any backyard oasis.

Q: Will deck jets cool a pool?

Deck jets can help cool a pool slightly by promoting water circulation and evaporation as the water streams back into the pool. While the cooling effect is minimal, it can make the water feel more refreshing, especially on hot days.

Q: Can you add deck jets to an existing pool?

Yes, deck jets can be added to an existing pool. The process typically involves installing new plumbing lines and integrating the jets into the pool deck. While it may require some modifications to your current setup, consulting a professional ensures proper installation, compatibility with your pool system, and a seamless finish. Adding deck jets is a great way to enhance your pool’s design and create a visually stunning and relaxing environment.

Q: How do pool deck jets work?

Pool deck jets operate by using a pump to send a stream of water arching gracefully from the pool deck into the pool. The water stream creates a shimmering effect that adds visual and auditory tranquility to the pool area. Many deck jets are adjustable, allowing you to control the height and angle of the water flow.

Q: Where do you put deck jets on a pool?

Deck jets are typically installed along the pool deck near the edge, spaced evenly to create a balanced look. Their placement depends on the desired visual effect and the layout of the pool area, ensuring they integrate seamlessly with the overall design. They are often installed in groups for maximum impact.

Q: What are pool scuppers?

Pool scuppers are openings on the side of a pool that allows water to flow out, often creating elegant visual and auditory effects. They assist in maintaining a steady water level, enhance water movement, and contribute to a calming atmosphere around your pool area.

Q: What are scuppers made from?

Scuppers can be crafted from materials such as copper, stainless steel, oil-rubbed bronze, or stone. These options allow for customization to match your pool's style and overall design aesthetic.

Q: How are scuppers installed?

Scuppers are typically installed in groups, often in threes, on raised walls, columns, or standard pool walls. Their placement enhances both the functionality and the visual appeal of your pool design.

Q: How much do scuppers cost?

The cost of a single pool scupper ranges from $100 to $300. However, the price may increase if additional structures like raised walls or columns are needed to house the scuppers.

Q: How do I clean pool scuppers?

Clean scuppers with distilled or purified water and a soft cloth. For water spots, use a product like Windex, and for light buildup, mild soap or vinegar works well. Avoid abrasive cleaners like steel wool, sandpaper, mineral acids, bleach, or chlorine-based products to prevent damage.

Q: How often should I clean my scuppers?

Scuppers should be cleaned regularly, at least once a month, to maintain their appearance and functionality. Regular cleaning prevents buildup and keeps water flowing smoothly.

Q: How long can sheer descents be?

Sheer descents can range in length from 8 inches to 8 feet, making them versatile for various pool designs.

Q: How do you customize sheer descents?

The width of a sheer descent is the most customizable feature, allowing you to choose a size that matches your pool design and desired water effect.

Q: How do you install a sheer descent?

An inline strainer is required during installation to ensure smooth water flow and prevent debris from clogging the system.

Q: How much water do sheer descents need?

Sheer descents typically require 1 gallon of water per minute for every inch of the feature, ensuring a consistent and smooth water flow.

Q: How do you maintain sheer descents?

Maintenance is done by hand to prevent calcium and mineral deposits from building up, preserving the clean, smooth flow of water.

Q: How much noise do sheer descents make?

Sheer descents are quieter than traditional waterfalls, creating a peaceful and relaxing environment in your backyard.

Q: What are the different water effects of sheer descents?

Sheer descents can create various effects, from a silent sheet of water to a rushing waterfall or a glass-like cascade, depending on the water flow.

Q: How do you create a rainfall effect with a sheer descent?

To achieve a rainfall effect, increase the water flow to the sheer descent. The stronger the flow, the farther the "rain" effect will project from the wall.

Q: How do I clean a pool water bowl?

To clean a pool water bowl, use a soft cloth and mild soap to gently remove debris and buildup. Regular cleaning helps maintain its appearance and functionality.

Q: What size bowl should I get?

Choose a bowl size that fits your pool deck and complements the overall design. A well-proportioned bowl enhances the aesthetic while providing a striking water feature.

Q: Can I add lighting to my pool water bowl?

Yes, many pool water bowls can be equipped with LED lighting to create an eye-catching effect, especially at night.

Q: Are there any safety concerns with pool water bowls?

Ensure the bowl is securely installed and supervise children around the pool area to maintain a safe environment.

Q: Can I add a grotto to an existing pool?

In most cases, a grotto can be added to an existing pool, depending on the pool’s structure and the space available. Consulting a professional pool builder ensures proper integration and design.

Q: What are the maintenance considerations for a grotto?

Grottos require regular cleaning to remove debris that can collect in the crevices of the rockwork, helping maintain both functionality and appearance.

Q: Do I need a special pump for a grotto waterfall?

A dedicated pump is typically needed to power the waterfall feature, ensuring a smooth and consistent water flow.

Q: What are some design options for a grotto?

  • Cave-like design: Offers a more enclosed, private space with a deeper interior.
  • Rock wall with waterfall: Features a smaller rock formation with cascading water.
  • Grotto with a bench: Includes a built-in seating area for relaxation within the grotto.
