About This Scottsdale Masterpiece
These Scottsdale customers were looking to replace their existing pool and create several destination areas throughout the property for enjoyment. Allowing the natural desert environment to come into the backyard was a focus, complimenting the Tuscan design and feel of the home. Incorporating the right stone, wood, tiles and travertine was vital in creating a continuous design flow to feel like a Tuscan Villa. Complimenting the existing outdoor fireplace and brick oven with other entertainment areas was also important to the homeowner.
This ultimate backyard is centered around the large freeform pool that holds 54,000 gallons of water and plenty of room for aquatic activity! The natural stacked stone on the pillars and water features helps establish the natural design feel of the outdoor environment. The backyard is framed with almost 2,500 square feet of Versailles Anelo Tumbled travertine that carries throughout the design. There are several destinations for enjoyment of the outdoor living space; all created to match the rustic look and feel of the home. Extensive landscaping was also incorporated in order to help the feel of the desert to come into the yard. This outdoor living environment ultimately shines through the numerous areas created for entertaining and relaxation.
A Natural Freeform Pool & Spa Design
The giant freeform pool is the focal point of the backyard oasis, featuring a negative edge that looks out into the desert landscape, a beautiful knife edge spa and two rock waterfalls. The pools’ Arctic Sea Glass Pebble creates a vibrant blue hue and transitions naturally to the Trident Turquoise waterline tile. The lagoon shape pool is 60-feet from one edge to the other, offering plenty of room for swimming and several areas for relaxation. The deep end offers room for diving, with a depth that goes well over 8 feet. There are two baja shelves and two raised benches for a designed retreat inside of the pool.
Creating Outdoor Entertainment Destinations
This ultimate backyard offers plenty of space for activity and entertainment. The pre-existing brick oven and outdoor fireplace are supported by new design elements, contributing to the Villa feel. The CPL team added a bar with 14 square feet of counter space to the preexisting outdoor kitchen. A custom Distressed Wood Arbor was also added in, with wood coming all the way from a reclaimed barn in Tennessee. The natural wood pillar shade structure matches the look and feel of the home and pre-existing outdoor environment.
A raised deck serves as a natural gathering spot on cool evenings in the desert. The 4-foot Kadia Indian Steel Fire Bowl is the centerpiece of the raised deck. The sitting area is over 12-feet wide and elevated a foot above the walkway accented by Mexican Noche tiled steps. Nature is brought into the yard with the freeform planter designs paired with stones that match the environment.
CPL also built an exterior shower and structure to the side of the home. The same Distressed Wood was used for the structure, while the Anelo Versailles Tumbled travertine and Mexican Noche accents highlight the shower wall. The shower is framed by two Navajo Pueblo pots that each hold an aloe plant and elephants food plant.
Incorporating Design Elements Throughout The Yard
The design of the backyard Villa is tied together with Anelo Versailles Tumbled travertine coupled with a natural stacked stone that carries throughout the property. The stacked stone that creates the water features and planters around the pool add to the natural oasis look of the water.
The landscaping on this ultimate backyard adds the final touches to this natural environment. There are several built in planters that are filled with trees, cactus, shrubs, groundcover, accents and specialty plants. There are 10 variations of cactus used in the landscape design and 14 different shrubs. The artificial turf adds additional color to the landscape design as well as over 600 square feet for activity or relaxation.
