2021 Construction Update: Quarter 4
If you have signed a contract & wonder how the construction process is operating heading into the 4th Quarter of 2021, you are not alone. The construction industry has been plagued by supply chain and labor issues in 2020 & ‘21, so much so that we want to share quarterly updates in an effort to be transparent with our customers. We are honored to be your pool builder of choice and take great pride in the commitment that we have to your project.
In 2021 we hired over 70 new employees with the highest concentration of new hires in pre-construction, construction management, and scheduling. The management team continues to work diligently in increasing our trade base and this year alone brought on over ten new trades. These additions have had a positive impact in reducing the time between layout and shotcrete. We have also made great strides with construction plans and permits with the pre-construction team exceeding all their quotas last quarter.
Our number one goal at California Pools & Landscape is to get you and your family to swim time! We’ve been adapting construction processes and changing supply chain management all in an effort to expedite the building timeline for every customer. Now heading into the 4th Quarter of 2021, we have some exciting news to share!
Phased Scheduling
Our construction scheduling will be switching to a Phased Scheduling approach starting on Friday, October 15th, 2021. We are making this transition to our scheduling department in an effort to improve the time between phases of construction, especially between excavation of the pool and shotcrete of your pools’ shell.
Scheduling managers will be assigned specific areas of construction so that they can hyper focus on that phase. Being able to specialize on a phase will also help our team communicate more efficiently with both our trade partners and clients.
Phased scheduling will also help improve the communication on the My CPL Portal App, which is your best way to stay in touch with the progress of your project. With the Portal App, you are able to communicate directly with your construction manager, scheduling manager & project manager. We are always striving to improve our communication and be transparent throughout your CPL experience and this scheduling switch will definitely help.
How Will Phased Scheduling Affect My Project?
Now that you know our way of construction scheduling is changing, it’s natural to worry about how it will affect your backyard project. Have no fear, your place in line will not change! If you are pre scheduled to have something completed, that spot will remain.
Due to issues with both the pandemic and supply chain shortages, pool construction scheduling is very fluid. Crews may show up a few days earlier or later than what is reflected in your app schedule. The dates displayed on the app are our best estimate. If any changes in the schedule are seen, our hope would be that dates move up with this new scheduling approach. We are undergoing this procedural change in an effort to get each and every California Pools & Landscape customer swimming as soon as possible. Our entire organization is focused on getting our building timelines back to a pre-pandemic level. We have new systems in place to try to accomplish this goal by the start of 2022.
Is Covid-19 Still Affecting My Project?
You might be wondering how Covid-19 is still affecting your project. At California Pools & Landscape, we’ve taken all the proper health and safety precautions to ensure a safe working environment for our employees and our customers. While we have recently experienced a slowdown in labor shortages due to quarantines, we’ve seen a larger problem with supply chain issues.
There are several industries that are still struggling to recover from the initial shutdowns during the pandemic. We have seen shortages still in PVC, steel, equipment, hardscape materials, and certain construction phases labor. We’ve adapted our business to warehouse massive amounts of building materials, all in effort to ensure we aren’t stalling on your job. We’ve also established important relationships in the industry with our valued suppliers who have kept our pumps, filters, valves and other parts in stock while other builders have been out of stock. Currently we have no construction hold ups on our jobs due to pool equipment shortages.
Have Any Questions?
During the building process you are sure to have some questions. We want to make sure that you are fully informed during the building process because there are a lot of things happening behind the scenes!
The My CPL Portal App is your best tool to use to contact your scheduling manager or project manager directly. You also can email smithfamily@calpool.com with any questions and we will get back to you in a timely manner.
We are filled with gratitude that you chose California Pools & Landscape as your pool & backyard builder. Everyone from the top down is committed to building you the highest quality pool as quickly as possible. We can’t wait to get you to swim time!
